BFF Challenge:Coffee

Once again, im late in posting the bff challenge.
tsk tsk tsk!
Before, i start my story, let me tell you first that this theme was picked by Emma.

I have a valid reason the last time because i was feeling poorly but this time that's not the case. I am just having a hard time doing this nail art. I know what i am all set out to do before. I have really been thinking of water marble just because i love looking at latte art but i really can't do water marbling. I have tried everything but it just doesn't seem to work on me. I have watched tons of videos, asked lots of people & read many blog posts but i still can't get the hang of it. I altered water temperature, room temperatures & different polishes but to my disappointment.
*sigh*

So, i just had to use acrylic to try the marble effect that i wanted to do.
It's still a fail though. hehehe
but i tried! lol

I don't drink coffee just because my body can't handle caffeine so whenever i go to coffee shops, i only order matcha (it means green tea) latte, i love it! So i only have to use the color green since i only drink matcha.

Let me tell you, im not really satisfied with this but i'm so dead set on marble effect so this will do for now.
This was my inspiration behind this:

I'll make it up on the next theme which would be textured. Now, that is gonna be really interesting! hehehe

You can check out these ladies doing the same challenge with me:

Hope that you will have a good start for this weekend!

Weekend Nails: 3d Violets~

Another nail art tutorial~
I'm so neglecting my beauty product reviews because i'm so into nail art these days. I'll get on those later. hehe

I sported this nail art last monday, not yet the weekend but i feel like making a nail art so i just did.

Looks difficult to do?
Nah, not that difficult. Yes, it's challenging but not impossible.
I added flakies for that extra oomph! If you don't have flaky polishes then glitters would do too.

If you read my 3d nail art post, the idea is basically the same. it's just that this time, instead of a rounded shape on the petals, i did it with tiny brushstrokes. I think this looks way better than my first one,ne?

I used acrylic again for this nail art. I guess you can use nail art pen as long as you have the colors you wanted.
These are the colors that i used.... left for my flowers & right for my leaves.

I forgot to add my phtalocyanine green as the one that i used for the inner leaf color. Anyway, the color depends on you. You can follow this color or invent your own! I think pinks & reds would work well for the flower...so are yellows & oranges!

Let's get on with the tutorial:

1. Choose your base color. On my nails, i choose a dark teal polish with green flakies. On the nail wheel, it's black with Essie flakies (shine of the times).
2. Using a dotting tool with the biggest tip, make a flower. Just drag it once you put it on & you'll be able to make a petal.
3. With a detailing brush, trace the edges of the petals for a neater look.
4. Dip the tip of the brush with the lilac color & make tiny strokes on the inside of the petals.
5. Then do the same procedure with the violet too. Just do it randomly. If your acrylic is still wet, it doesn't matter. You can even mix them together for a more natural blend.
6. As for the leaf, start a line to serve as the main vein.
7. With tiny strokes, draw the half part of the leaf using the lightest color. Just do this with a light hand, you won't be able to achieve a serrated-effect with a heavy hand.
8. Repeat the same procedure with number 7 to complete the leaf. Just use the tip of the brush.
9. Follow steps 7 & 8 this time with the green color & don't go over the edge of the whole leaf, just the inside of it.
10. Using the darker green (phtalocyanine green) deepen the color of the leaf with tiny strokes.
11. Then add in some details like swirls & more leaves or flowers. I used a swarovski for the middle of the flower, but if you don't have rhinestones then you can just add a dot in the middle. Finish it off with a top coat!

See?
It's challenging but not impossible. I made another video so that you'll be able to see it in real time but uploading on youtube takes forever so i just didn't bother posting it.

Hope you'll be able to sport this look on your nails sometime now that you know how to do it.

Have a great day,ladies!

rants & ramblings: quarter-life crisis + weekend nails

Let's start with the good thing first before i started ranting & rambling.
Good news: I was able to make a nail art design!
Bad news: No tutorial... you'll know why there's no tutorial later. *sigh*

I just want to see yellow for i miss seeing the sun because it's been raining here for the past week...
I am getting cranky with all the gloom surrounding me. So, i decided to try playing with my acrylics because i am at our other house the time i made this & i don't have my polish collection.

I think polish would make this smoother but the drying time would be a pain in the neck!
Anyway, this is not hard to do... It will just take time whether you decided to try polish or acrylics.

On to more bad news! Feel free to close now because this is just a nonsense rambling...

I will be on a blog hiatus for the meantime because my camera has a problem. The lens is somewhat stuck & can't go all the way out & go back in either. I had to push it back just to close it up & i don't have a freakin' idea how it happened.

Which would just mean that i won't be able to do any kind of post for the meantime without my trusty camera. I can't buy a new one all because i don't have the means to buy one.... *sigh*

This is just another one of the things that had piled up amongst the other personal stuff. I feel like i had run out of luck & Lady Luck just boycotted me because lots of unfortunate things has been happening. I am already so depressed, annoyed & angry at what's happening that it's a good thing my buddy, Meji, told me what i have been going through....

Quarter-life crisis!
Yes!
My life is one big crisis now!
I don't want to go into personal details but 1 big thing that i have decided is a career change...

I have decided to be a make-up artist.
I am an online English teacher & i know that being a teacher is very different from being a make-up artist but heck, i want to try something new. A chance at happiness is the line that i can best describe it. I don't want to say the being an English teacher is no good. It's the opposite! It's fun when you interact with other people & know that they learn something from you. The impact that you make on a person's life is priceless.

I just want to try doing something that will make me even happier. I have my story on how i started my blog & make-up on my about me section so just check out if you want to, but i am happy when i get to play with my make-up palette. I want to continue doing so, sharing the beauty of cosmetics not just to my readers but to other people as well.

I want to be able to attend a make-up school too to learn more. I have planned out what i want to do but of course the change will have to be gradual. I just wish that i'll be able to get the support that i wanted from the people around me.
*sigh*

Money is also one big issue .. so much for wanting to change something without being able to "afford" the change that will take place.
*sigh*

One thing that i want to rant about is my "comment" dilemma too...
I have switched from Blogger comments to Disqus thinking that it would be so much better because it has the reply button which would make answering comments easier but i find that it's more of a nuisance than a convenience...
*sigh*

I find that it's not showing the comments on my previous posts especially for those that has exceeded 50+
T_T

It's so unfortunate because i know that most of my readers also gives out additional information that i might have missed... I could overlook the fact that i have to log in on a different dashboard just to approve comments but i find that some comments are just not in sync-ed with my blogger comments even though i have already enable the "sync" command.

Yare, yare!
It feels like the Cons outweigh the Pros...
I am already thinking of switching back to the old blogger comment but i like how i can personalize my reply to everyone. Is there a way to this?

I also don't know if it's just Disqus but the number of my comments had gone down when i switched.

OMG!
Quarter-life crisis... i wish that it would soon be over before i make a complete mess of everything...
*sigh*

Since, i'm not really in a cheery mood so i won't be leaving you with my usual good bye line...
:(
Wish me luck in handling out this blasted QLC!

Weekend Nails:time for spring~

Winter is almost over & i'm glad that my students are feeling a bit happier that it's not as cold anymore & it's not snowing that much. Since i live in a tropical country, i can't just imagine the feeling of being trapped in the house  because of heavy snow... plus the lingering coldness. I bet it must be quite hard,eh?

So to welcome the season, i decided to do a gradient green nail design with a hint of warmth on it.

Excuse the dry-looking cuticles, ladies.
I did this last night & i haven't cleaned the edges yet & there are still excess top coat at the edges especially the middle nails for i have to make sure that i seal the rhinestones in places.

I just bought a new set of acrylic paints because i don't like the consistency of my old acrylics anymore. They are already a bit dry, though i can still use it to paint but it's hard for nail designing. I'm glad that i saw a set that has 18 colors. It's a lot cheaper compare if you are going to buy them separately.

I haven't used acrylics that much when i do my nails for i prefer nail polishes, i guess i just had this thinking that anything that is used for painting should only be used in canvasses. LOL! Though i know that in some salons they use acrylic paints in nail arts. So why not practice with acrylics now! My nails are my canvas, albeit a really small one!

I decided to so flower designed nails for i haven't had any luck when it comes to flowers. I have only received 2 bouquets of flowers for my entire 26 years of living... How pathetic, huh? That's also the reason why i don't like Valentines... you can ask Sis Pammy why. XD

I guess that's why i don't usually do intricate flowery design. I'm still basically a beginner when it comes to flower designs, except for those flower dots. Sorry if this design looks messy (-__-")

For those who are also a beginner in flower designing, Let's all do our best!
Watashi mo Gambarimassu!
\(^_^)/

It's also been a while since i did gradient nails so i decided to do a green gradient underneath. Sponging method is really so easy to do. Let's start with the tutorial!

Materials needed:

  • base & top coat
  • base color - optional - you can even go for bare nails since this will have a gradient tip
  • sponge
  • dotting tool
  • nail brushes - pointed filbert brush & liner brush - optional
  • acrylics - titanium white, orange, phthalocyanine green (light green & viridian hue is optional)
  • rhinestones - optional
1. After base coat, apply your base color. As what i said, this is optional, you can just skip it but since my nails have a very bad nail stains (i'll let you know why after a couple of days) so i need to apply a nude nail polish to cover it up.

2. Then load up your sponge with green acrylic so you can start sponging. Start with the lightest color first, in my case, it's the light green. If you don't have a light green acrylic, then just make your own by mixing titanium white & phthalocyanine green. Adjust the color until you achieve a light green. Sponge your own at about 3/4 of your nail.

After the light green, i applied the viridian hue (again, feel free to mix your own color, it's juts a tad bit darker than light green, so just add a bit of phthalocyanine green on your light green mixture). After that would be the phthalocyanine green alone at the edge

Sponging tip:
When you apply the acrylic on your sponge, press it first on a paper so that the acrylics would be distributed evenly... continue pressing until you get the desired color. You don't want a big glob of acrylic sitting on one side of your nail because the color concentration would be too high in that area. It's better to start a soft wash of color & just work your way in compare to starting with a heavy color.

I prefer make-up sponge when i do the sponging method because it's dense enough to achieve a not-too-obvious sponge holes compare to the usual sea sponge that has a lot of holes on them. But the sea sponge design is also good, it's just that when i want a real gradient look then i go for make-up sponges.

3. Then using the pointed filbert brush, we will have to make flowers. Dip the tip in titanium white acrylic.

Now, when you work with acrylics & this rule applies to all brushes as well, Just use the tip as much as you can. If you get the acrylic on the ferrule, it would be hard to remove it. When it dries inside, it could affect the density of your brush. I have destroyed a good number of brushes when i was still painting all because i can't remove the remaining acrylics left on the ferrule. I'll do a separate post about it when i talked about nail art brushes.

4. With steady hands, make flowers on the side/middle/top/edge of your nails like so...

Just be random. What makes this nail design fun is that you're not bound by a specific design since all of your nails has the same base & you have the same colors  in every nails so you can just have fun with the flower & dot placements!

5. When the flowers are done, we can add a bit of warmth on it using the orange acrylic. just apply it on the inside of the flower.

6. Then add dots using a dotting tool

7. Finish it off with rhinestones that you put in the middle of the flowers & your favorite top coat of course!

There ya go!

I am actually digging the gradient green. My flowers still look like a disaster, but i'm sure with practice i'll be able to make it better. I still have a long way to go.. mada mada!

Hope you like it.

Have a great Sunday!

Weekend Nails: Sunflower nails

I'll be accompanying my little bro this Saturday in his school field trip. I decided to do my nails earlier than when i i regular do it for i know that i'll be busy this Friday making bento for both of us. I want a nail design that would look fun & bright so i just decided to make sunflower nails since sunflower is a bright & lovely flower!

This is not that hard to do. If you are not used to using nail polish in doing details on your nails acrylics are a much safer option since you can easily wash it off.... which reminds me... i need to get a couple of tubes of acrylics tomorrow when i go shopping.

Anyway, let's start with the tutorial...

Things needed:
  • base/top coat
  • green polish
  • yellow polish/acrylic
  • black polish/acrylic
  • golden brown polish/acrylic
  • detailing brush
  • dotting tool/hairpin
Instructions:
  • Start with clean nails then apply base coat & also the green base color.

  •  Apply half circles on the edges of the nail like so. Let it dry.

  •  Using yellow polish/acrylic make small petals on the side of the circle. I tried to do a diamond shape but since my hands are a bit shaky so it ends up with a not-so-diamond-like shape,,, but it's ok..

  • Then  put a black line on the edge of the circle to have a more define shape.

  • Put random dots on the brown circle. Apply top coat to make it last longer.

Dekimashita~!
We're done!

There ya go!
Hope you'll be able to try out this design especially now that it's almost winter time. This will give you a hint of warmth just by looking at it!

Hope y'all have a good day,ladies!

I was contacted by B.liv weeks ago to try out their products. I have been so lazy in applying any skin care products lately that I can alrea...
