rants & ramblings:do you buy limited edition stuff?

As i venture further & further into the world of cosmetics i came upon lots of companies that releases collections that are only available for a certain time. MAC for one is 1 of the ultimate favorite of beauty mavens & is always releasing collections every now & then that girls go gagas for.

So humor me,girls, what is the hype about limited editions?
What is it about buying those limited editions that seems to be making the ladies restless & excited?

I don't have anything bad about limited edition stuff,ok? I'm just curious. What is it about them?

I only have very limited cosmetics. I have gotten rid/given away most of the cosmetics that i don't use anymore. It's true that the satisfaction of seeing your dresser/vanity table filled with cosmetics gives such a joy, but then it's impractical for me to fill my kit with stuff that i won't be using every now & then. I think i said before that when i did the project 10 pan, the lemmings & sporadic cosmetic-buying just went away as i go further in the task. It's like i realized how useless it is for me to keep on buying since i don't apply make-up everyday.

I love cosmetics, mind you. I won't start a beauty blog if i don't. It's just that the thought of owning a limited edition might bring a great satisfaction but if you come to love 1 product from a certain collection & there comes a time that it doesn't exists anymore, wouldn't that just bring frustration?

Would anyone please explain to me the satisfaction of buying it?
Am i missing out if i don't actually get into the hype?

How about you?
Do you own limited edition stuff?  Or if not, would you buy any? Why?

To make this a bit fun, i'll give away a new Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer (which is always out of stock because it is dang good!) to a random commenter. Winner will be announced next week after the holiday...

Let me hear your thoughts,hunnies!

I honestly do not get the hype and I don't go gaga for limited edition items due to the face that I will just be sad and disappointed when I run out of it and won't be able to find it anywhere. And I might not be able to use it as much as I want because I know it'll be hard to find in the future. But I guess it's for collectors and maybe some of them are after the packaging? I really don't know. :P

I didn't know if i can help u sis...Because I dont own any limited edition cosmetics...(like mac)...Sometimes I feel frustrating and LEFT OUT! Because I don't have one:(
But my secret to fulfill my needs(to be satisfied) is to find a dupe of that limited edition item...or just find a secondhand/preloved of that specific item that i'm looking for.. As a student I can save more money if i look for a dupe that is more cheaper...right? ^^,
I also have many cosmetics that is stack on my vanity...So if i buy more, some of my cosmetics will be useless(expired)...so I think I must be contented on what I have...
I dont need some limited edition cosmetics to show off...
^^<
(Limited edition cosmetics dont last even their products, if you save it, it will expired)
What i mean is the stock is limited and also the products it contain....
Stay beautiful sis...
take care...

Finally! A makeup lover who's not into limited edition stuff. haha I like makeup but I don't get swayed easily with limited edition ones. They're usually just the same (or similar) colors as the regular products- just repackaged in fancier containers and hyped up. I just buy what I need (or want) regardless if it's limited edition or not. :)

No I don't. First, I am not a makeup artist. second, I would rather eat or buy a new toy for my baby than buy the limited edition.
But on the other hand, it is nice seeing having your own limited edition just for the sake of curiosity maybe or for the love of makeup.

this is one limited edition stuff that i have...it is sooo PRICELESS! well, my limited edition stuff is my SOULMATE. yup, my fiance is my limited edition stuff. why? because he is has everything I want in a man. Sweet, understanding, a gentleman, smart, LOYAL and 1 million megawatt handsome! teehee... ( Nate in case you are reading this, don't blush ok? teehee...

I just feel so blessed and lucky that I already have him. Who would have known that we'll be together despite the cultural differences ( he's american ).

Girls, I know each and everyone of you have their own limited edition stuff. It can be a bag, clothes, makeup, jewelry, car, but if you found THE ONE like I did, that one person who will love and cherish you, don't let him go. Love and cherish him twice as much as he does to you. No material thing/s can ever replace and top off finding your SOULMATE.

I own a couple of limited editions but I don't get the hype either.... maybe for makeup artist or girls who are really into it. I rarely wear makeup on a daily base (includes mascara and such) so there's no point for me, personally to go out and buy a whole bunch of makeups that I won't use (which I had done....).

i do have limited edition stuff but i try not to look at new collections to stop myself from buying especially from MAC since they really burn a hole in my pocket. one thing that i always look out for though is the urban decay book of shadows release every year because the shadows are really value for money and i do get to use them as a makeup artist :)

I definitely don't hop on hypes of having limited editions ...but I think I understand the feeling, as a collector...whatever edition becomes-a must have, sad part of limited edition thingies...is when you fall in love with a product...it won't be around anymore...

but when you think of it...no product is permanent neh? formulations change etc etc :P

much love sis thia

hehe right after seing the :Limited edition and why" i know i have to visit it first before i go out hehe.
anyway i was asking the same thing a few months back...but then i thought maybe the one that they're after is that the uniqueness of the product, that you might only see on a specific brand..for example MAC(i call this brand masters of collections) they always have Limited edition stuffs that you can only buy within a limited span of days..the thought of the product being "Limited" plus the thought of the "SPAN/TIME" frame that they can only purchase the product is a very good "marketing strategy",not to mention the packaging..plus if youre a fan of their featured fictional character(like hello kitty,VV,Dame, etc).like when they released the Venomous Villains collection...i was looking for their Nail Polishes!!..wala ako makita!! out of stock!the only time that you'll see me go for the Limited Edition is when their release is just way too extraordinary..hehe just like those super pretty VV nail polishes..hope this helps.^_^

Hi sis I just want to comment but do not join me sa Etude House contest ha? I purchase 2 from Korea trip so I won't be selfish! hahaha

Anyways..about limited edition stuffs, as you can see, I'm not really a fan of it or I don't go gaga over it! I guess it's the personality of human being, wanting something "limited" or difficult to have and having the satisfaction of owning it while others salivate over it! I guess to some, there are some limited edition stuffs that are REALLY good worth the "gaga" but there are some "blahs". It all boils down to the personality of the buyer :)

Honestly I have no clue what the hype is. I don't think I own a single LE product. And I'm kind of the same way as you, why buy it if you don't need it. There's no need to pile up the cosmetics in my makeup collection if I won't use it. I passed by a Sephora the other day & my friend asked me why I didn't go in & my response was "I don't need any makeup so why even go in?" I spend so much money on other stuff so I don't need to buy the LE cosmetics.

The only time I'd buy something that's LE is if I REALLY like it. Not because it's cute or fun to look at. hahhahha

I'm just a little more selective on what I will spend my money on I guess :p

I don't start to hyperventilate everytime I see a LE product on the market lol if it's something that I would like regardless of it being LE or not I will get it! But I won't buy something just because it's LE, if that makes sense...
The only bad thing about buying things that are LE is if you love them then you know you can't get them again (unless you stock up like a crazy person)

Great post hun- very insightful question : ) x

After reading this entry I just realized that I do not own a single LE thing. But to answer your other question, I would probably buy LE things if say, for make up if the product is really awesome and HG material. I don't get the hype over the LE collections that mac releases every now and then though, because after you hit pan on that nicely decorated lipstick tube, what will you do with the casing? Or maybe I just don't understand because I am not a collector? Just my two cents on the topic at hand :D

I have always been wanting to own LE make up but the practical side of me is telling me that owning such often leads to disappointement. Often times, with LE, once we hit the pan we realize how much we love to own another one again but can't do so since its no longer on stock =( Besides, there is often a reason why those non LE make up are well, non LE ;) They often deliver well and has been tested and proven :D
One more thing, when people see your make up, they will ALWAYS compliment how good you look and not ask if your make up is LE..
cheers! ;)

I am not so atat with limited edition cosmetics. I think it is the cosmetics brand's way of boosting sales and marketing, pero I respect that naman. I'm just not swayed by it.
It's hard and frustrating if you really loved product tapos you can't get it anymore. back to zero na naman, you would have to scout for the perfect product again.
I agree with khryz that nobody would wonder if the makeup you are wearing is LE, they will just compliment on how great you look.

I honestly don't get it either!!!Probably because I don't own any limited edition stuffs. Hypocrisy aside, given the chance and the resources I would love to own some in the future. But for now, I'm so contented with what I have!!!

Believe in B.liv's Dump Off Drawn! I do!

I was contacted by B.liv weeks ago to try out their products. I have been so lazy in applying any skin care products lately that I can alrea...
